A large screen television that saves electricity and is good for the environment.
An MDDP television set uses only about 200 watts, regardless of screen size. The larger the screen size, the more energy savings it has. According to recent surveys, a 60-inch MDDP television set will save the average household around $100 per year in electric bills. Power savings are even greater for larger screen sizes. If all the television sets in use today used MDDP technology, the world would save about 444 billion kilowatt-hours per year.
Notes:
1. Power consumption numbers come from manufacturer data (rated power)
2. According to Neilson Media Research 2000, the average U.S. household has a television set on for seven hours and forty minutes per day. Costs are calculated at 20 cents per kilowatt-hour, assuming that the difference between a 60-inch MDDP set and a conventional flat-panel set is 200 watts.
The savings of 444 billion kilowatt-hours corresponds to the production of about 5.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2). This is equivalent to the yearly CO2 emission of about one million cars!
CO2 reduction if all television sets 40 inches and larger were converted to MDDP
If all 40-inch and larger television sets in the world used MDDP technology, it would reduce CO2 emission by the equivalent of 18 million cars (using 2006 numbers).
Note: calculations performed assume 10,000 pounds (4.545 metric tons) of CO2 per car per year.
MDDP HDTV saves money, and is good for the environment.
